MUCH ADO ABOUT PARIS DURING HAUTE COUTURE FASHION WEEK

Paris Couture Fashion Week is one of the most glorious events that occurs each summer in the fashion capitol of the world. When I was interning abroad for a summer, I wish I had the chance to sneak into a show or two. There have already been a few highlights throughout the overflow of beautiful shows. Dior’s Autumn-Winter ’17-’18 haute couture collection show was a beautiful combination of glamour and utility for their Cruise Collection, and they did a great takeover of the Musée des Invalides with amazing shrubbery and exotic animals galore. Dior also is celebrating its 70th anniversary and included a great exhibition at Musée des Arts Décoratifs.

Rodarte was another breathtaking demonstration with an abundance of baby’s breath flower crowns and bows in the models’ hair at the brand’s Spring 2018 show. It was a lovely accompaniment to the laced-up collars, embroidered dresses, and it all perfectly contrasted the black stiletto booties. At first, there was some controversy for the show to be displayed during the Haute Couture Fashion Week, but Rodarte’s intrusion on an old hospital of Paris with both English and French garden installations was truly a display of art.

Streaming these beautiful Haute Couture shows while sipping coffee in my pajamas feels bitter sweet. There are so many hidden gems in Paris and a plethora of fashion and food to excite any New Yorker. I often think about trading everything to take another bike-ride through Versailles gardens, sitting outside of a café for hours eating Viennoiserie, or strolling through a beautifully formulated French garden with an Amorino floral-shaped gelato in hand.
